PEORIA - Ona Sidlinger will celebrate the opening of a new photography studio Feb. 10 with a Valentine's Day shopping, music, food, wine, and art event.

The "Shopaholics (and Chocoholics, too)" event is 4 to 8 p.m. at the new studio at 120 SW Water St. on the riverfront, next to Old Chicago.

Admission is free. There will be wares from several local vendors as well as an artwork competition between local high school students, with the requirement being chocolate or chocolate-themed work. Attendees will vote for their favorite piece of artwork. The winner will receive a cash prize.

Wine, chocolate, and chocolate-covered hors d'oeuvres will be served, with live music by pianist Jerry Ailshie.

The boutique-style studio features a camera room, dressing rooms, a home theater viewing room, custom framing, office reception area and gallery.

Photography: A Glimpse of The Traveling Life

Through the middle of February, the Wrocaw Gallery of Contemporary Art is holding an exhibition consisting of a collection of photographs which narrate the story of photographer Harald Medbe's encounters with Roma society. "The Gypsy Trips" records the life of the people whom the author calls "the last free people of Europe."

Medbe is an established Norwegian photographer who worked in the 70s as a photographer for the National Theater in Olso. He now works independently and has published various albums, which are usually accompanied by written work or audio media. "The Gypsy Trips" features a catalogue published in Norway, consisting of 60 pictures and 20 short stories describing meetings between the artist and the gypsy community. The photographs on display in Wrocaw capture the relatively undocumented life of the Roma.

Samsung launches new looks for the NV3 camera range

The Samsung NV3 got a reasonably-favourable review by us last year. If you are still undecided about its merits, maybe these new finishes will tempt you to splash out.

The new looks are silver stainless steel and a special edition NV3 OPL - a camera coated with an environmentally-friendly Oriental Plant Lacquer. The colours are essentially the only upgrade here. You still get a very small 7.2 megapixel camera with 2.5-inch screen, 3x optical zoom and advanced shake reduction technology.

There's also an MP3 player, media player and movie shooting. The MP3 player offers 3D, Jazz, Rock, and other sound effects through built in stereo speakers or the included headphones.

The NV3 silver and NV3 OPL retail at £199 and £229 respectively and are available now.

Police: Hospital van spotted dumping paraplegic man on Skid Row

LOS ANGELES - Even on Skid Row, where life and dignity are cheap, it was a shocking scene: a paraplegic man sliding along using his hands, carrying his meager belongings in a plastic hospital bag he clutched in his teeth.

Police said the man, who was dragging a malfunctioning colostomy bag behind him, had been dumped out on the sidewalk by the driver of a medical van.

The witnesses to the dumping, all homeless people, began shouting, "'Where is his wheelchair, where is his walker,'" police Detective Russ Long told The Associated Press on Friday.

They told officers the driver responded that the man defecated in the van and had to be removed.

"It looks like a shocking case of neglect at this point," Long said. "If there is an explanation, it just eludes me at this point.

Get ready for Bratz Super Heroes

She's been a cowgirl, she's been a rock star, she's even been a genie. Is there anything that a "Bratz" doll can't do?

Not really, says Isaac Larian, CEO of MGA Entertainment, the company behind the hugely successful line of sassy, cutting-edge fashion dolls that continue to offer stiff competition to Mattel's Barbie dolls.
