| PC Game Review: Play with Fire
Imagine this: a game with poor graphics, a bland concept, less than intuitive controls, and poor camera angles. If you put them all together you may very well end up with a game very close to Manifesto’s Play With Fire. The player is a little ball of fire that has to destroy various blocks, by setting them on fire and having them crumble, in an attempt to get to a black block and go to the next level. Why does the player have to do this? Who knows. After the first two levels does the player care to go any further? I’d imagine not. The player’s little ball of fire has to, on every level, destroy blocks in a certain order in order to reach the goal, which is the level exit block. Some blocks are completely indestructible, others not so much.

China travel and photography tour
Ewen Bell, a professional photographer and writer who has worked on photo assignments in more than 25 countries, has been developing a 14-day, one-of-a-kind tour of China and travel photography workshop since 2005. This trip combines the cultural richness of China's eastern provinces with the opportunity to learn about photography from an expert. Key attractions on the tour include Beijing, Shanghai, The Great Wall, rural villages, rice terraces and the famous terra cotta warriors. This trip focuses on responsible tourism through keeping the group size very small (max 8 people), using local guides, and visiting out-of-the-way communities. Tour participants provide local village people with photos that were taken on previous trips. More information on the trip is available at ewenbell.com/workshops.
Kodak will slash 3,000 more jobs as it wraps up four-year overhaul this year
NEW YORK (AP) - Eastman Kodak Co. is cutting 3,000 more jobs this year as the picture-taking pioneer wraps up its wrenching transformation into a digital-imaging company focused on consumer photography and commercial printing. By year-end, its work force will slip below 30,000, less than half what it was just three years ago. On top of 27,000 layoffs already targeted, Kodak said Thursday it is reducing its payroll even further to accommodate the US$2.35 billion sale in January of its health-imaging unit and its costly foray this week into a high-margin inkjet-printer market dominated by Hewlett Packard Co. "The dream was that we would wake up in 2008 with the digital company that we want to have. We're still right on that track," chief executive Antonio Perez said at an annual meeting of Kodak analysts and institutional investors.
More free software for digital microscopy camera
Starting from 1 February 2007, both Moticam 2000 and Moticam 2300 packages will be inclusive of two more free-of-charge features. Whether you are viewing live images at a full 2.0 or 3.0 megapixel resolution or whether you are just performing some quick inspection, the standard camera control interface now features live cross hair as well as scale bar tools. With the click of a mouse, cross hairs can be overlaid onto the live image giving accurate pixel coordinates of the centre. The centre of the cross hair can easily be moved to any area on the live screen by dragging your mouse. When capturing an image for analysis, the cross hair will be automatically removed from the still image to be evaluated. Accurately calibratable scale bars can be added into the live image with similar ease.
