| Wisconsin newspapers, WIAA battle over sports tournament photos
LAKE DELTON Most daily newspapers in Wisconsin wont pay a $100 fee to the states governing body for high school athletics, setting up a fight over whether the papers may continue to sell photographs from state tournaments. Few, if any, newspapers will pay the $100 credentialing fee, said Randy Brandt, president of the Wisconsin Associated Press Editors Association and editor of The Journal Times in Racine. Newspaper editors meeting Friday at the Wisconsin Newspaper Association annual convention are upset about the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Associations contracts with companies giving those businesses exclusive photographic and video rights to state championship events. The issue has taken greater urgency with tournaments for high school basketball and wrestling just days away.
Library employee shows off creative side through photography ...
Adam Alonzo may be a quiet man, but his photography speaks volumes. Through his camera lens, Alonzo manages to transform seemingly common scenes and objects into stunning works of art. I wanted to create a different point of view, he said. There are so many things around us that we overlook because of our hectic lifestyles. I look at those objects and capture them through creative photography. Through his shutter, Alonzo captures everything from a morning dewdrop on a bluebell leaf to dancers mid-leap. Perhaps the most striking aspect of this exhibit is the vibrancy of his art. Every photo is fascinating in its own way. These attributes have lead to numerous awards and recognition for his work. When asked how his pursuit of photography began, Alonzo smiled. I was sitting in a barbershop flipping through a magazine when I saw a two-page ad for a Cannon camera, he said.

As a compliment to this, the K550 Cyber-shot phone delivers the benefits of the Cyber-shot phone in a compact (14mm thin) form factor. The handset is equipped with a 2.0 megapixel camera with auto focus plus LED photo light and active lens cover.
US photographer Spencer Platt wins World Press Photo award
An image of stylish Lebanese youths driving through a Beirut neighborhood devastated by Israeli bombing, taken by U.S. photographer Spencer Platt, has won the World Press Photo of the Year award, the jury announced Friday. The image contrasts a group of friends against a background of the wreckage of a collapsed building. Tellingly, one woman grimaces as she uses her mobile phone to send a text message to a friend, while another, wearing sunglasses, covers her nose with a handkerchief. The award, which Platt took while working for photo agency Getty Images, is considered one of the most prestigious for photojournalists. The photo was taken on Aug. 15, the first day of a cease-fire between Israel and Hezbollah, as thousands of Lebanese began returning to their homes. It also won in the category of "Daily Life Singles." The chairman of the jury, Michele McNally of the New York Times, described the shot as "a picture you can keep looking at." "It has the complexity and contradiction of real life, amidst chaos.
